Please, notice one thing – that fruit does not feature on that list at all! Yes, later phases of the Atkins diet do allow small amounts of fruits such as cantaloupe and strawberries, and the pre-maintenance and maintenance phases do even allow small quantities of grapefruit, but when judged in comparison with the amount of Grapefruit recommended on the Atkins Grapefruit Diet there is a massive difference.

The Atkins Grapefruit Diet suggests a cup of grapefruit juice or a cup of grapefruit sections, with 8 and 18 carbs respectively. Even the most liberal phases of the Atkins diet suggests restricting consumption to below 8 carbs per day, with regard to grapefruit. That is a direct contradiction of one plan to the other.

Most sensible people would turn to the Atkins website itself the moment they heard of the Atkins Grapefruit Diet and when they found no reference of that diet on their site, a red light would flash and an alarmbell would ring.

In general, remember that any plan that relies too heavily on one type of food, such as grapefruit in a grapefruit diet, is unhealthy for any but very short periods. The Atkins Grapefruit Diet is not associated with the Atkins diet, and may interfere with the results of the Atkins diet, especially in its early phases.

The hard-hitting, unpredictable, net-rushing tennis-player is a person of impulse. There is no real system to his/her game, no understanding of your game-plan. He will make brilliant rallies at the drop of a hat, mostly by instinct; but there is no, no consistent thinking. It is an fascinating sort of character.

The most dangerous player is the one who mixes his/her strategy from back to fore court under the direction of an ever-active mind. This/her is the player to learn from. He is a player with a definite intention. A player who has an answer to every query you present him in your game. He is the most subtle opponent in the world of tennis. He is of the school of Brookes. Second only to him is the player of dogged determination that fixes his/her mind on one plan and sticks to it, bitterly, fiercely battling to the bitter end, with never a thought of changing his gameplan.

This is the player whose psychology is rather easy to work out, but whose mental viewpoint is difficult to upset, because he never permits himself to think about anything but his game. This/her player is your Johnston or your Wilding. I respect the mental capacity of Brookes more, but I admire the tenacity of purpose of Johnston.

Choose your sort from your own mental processes, and then plan your game along the lines best suited to you. Let’s just say that you had succeeded with that shot down the sideline. It was a seemingly impossible get. First it amounts to TWO points, because it took one away from your opponent that should have been his/her and gave you one that you should never have had. Second it also upsets your opponent, because he feels that he has thrown away a big opportunity.

The psychology of a tennis match is very interesting, but readily understandable. Both men begin with equal chances. Once one player establishes a real lead, his/her confidence goes up, while his/her opponent worries, and his/her mental standpoint becomes weaker. The sole aim of the first player is to hold his/her lead, thus maintaining his/her confidence.

If the second player pulls even or pulls ahead, the inevitable reaction is an even greater contrast in psychology. There is the natural confidence of the leader, but boosted by the great stimulus of having turned a seemingly sure-fire defeat into a probable victory. The case of the other player is the reverse. He is likely to lose confidence and play worse. The breakdown of his game plan soon follows.
